Goldpanning on Chicken Creek
Using picks and shovels, gold prospectors discovered gold on Chicken Creek in 1886. Later the F.E. Gold Company operated the Pedro Dredge on the lower two miles of Chicken Creek from 1959 to 1967. After 1967, a number of small placer mining operations continued to find gold in Chicken Creek. Gold is still being mined here and in the Fortymile River area.
